Description:
A white to slightly yellow powder. It produces a clear solution when dissolved with Water for Injections or Lignocaine Hydrochloride Solution.
Ingredients:
• cefoxitin sodium.
Indications:
An antibiotic that belongs to a group of medicines called cephalosporins. It is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria. It may be given with other antibiotics. It will not work against infections
caused by viruses such as colds or the flu.
Administration:
Will be dissolved before it is injected. It is given as an injection into a muscle or as a slow injection or infusion(intravenous drip) into a vein.
Dosage:
Your doctor will decide what dose you will receive. This depends on your condition and other factors, such as your weight.
Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection is usually given every eight hours.
Side Effects:
Mild side effects
• oral thrush - white, furry, sore tongue and mouth
• vaginal thrush - sore and itchy vagina and/or discharge
• pain, swelling, redness or tenderness at the injection site
• mild diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting.
Serious side effects
• signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching or hives on the skin; swelling of the face, lips,
tongue or other parts of the body; shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing
• fever
• severe diarrhoea
• light-headedness or dizziness
• yellowing of the skin and/or eyes
• problems with urination.
Storage:
Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection will be kept in a cool dry place, protected from light, where the temperature stays below 25°C.
